LEEDS UNITED DEFEAT SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

Leeds United achieved their second victory in the Midland League tournament at Elland, before close upon 4,000 onlokers. Only one goal was scored in the match , but on the run of play. United were far the superior team, and had the forwards taken all the the oppurtunities that came their way , a much bigger margin would have separated the elevens at the close of play. As usual Mason was the best of the United forwards. Rounds had little to do in goals, while several of the new men tried to give promise of things to come. On the Sheffield side, Davison, in goal was often brilliant, his power of anticipation being accurate, and his promptness of action prove invaluable to to his team.

Although the United had the assistance of strong slanting wind in the first half. they failed to score, although having three-quarters The game had only proceeded five minutes in the second half of the play when Mason ended a smart forward by eluding Fidler and scoring. The Wednesday improved afterwards for a time, but once more the home club took matters in hand, and pressedhard to the end, but failed to score again

Leeds United Gain their First Victory

DAVISON'S FINE DISPLAY

Three thousand spectators assembled at Elland Road, where Leeds United gained a victory over Wednesday Reserves by 1-0. It was an interesting, in which Davison gave a capital display of goalkeeping for The Wednesday. In the first half, particularly he accomplished many brilliant saves, and it was due to his admirable work that thevisitors were not behind at the interval. Leeds United adapted themselve to the boisterous conditions better than their opponents, whose forwards did not pass or shootas well as the United set. Wednesday started off well, but they disappointed in front of goal. Their defence was reliable, and they got through plenty of work in creditable style, and it was not until the closing stages of the game that Leeds scored through Mason. The halfbacks on both sides did well in defence, but the United trio were superior to The Wednesday set in the matter of feeding their forwards. Considering that The Wednesday were on the defensivefor most part of the game, they were rather lucky not to sustaining a heavier defeat.
